Do you long for the hazy, lazy days of summer so you can indulge yourself and enjoy your garden to the full. A swing seat is an excellent purchase at the moment and is one of the very best ways to make the very best of your garden. Can you see yourself sipping a nice chilled wine or gin and tonic while gently swaying back and forth on the relaxing swing seat? If you have children, this is an ideal way to spend time with them in the garden in a calming and relaxing manner. So many people wait until they retire to buy one of these but to my mind, that is such a pity as a swing seat gives years and years of pleasure.

So what exactly is the difference between a swing seat and a hammock? Well, a hammock is made of material whereas a swing seat is made from either wood or metal. A hammock is usually suspended from either trees or a specially created posts. A swing seat on the other hand consists of an A frame construction from which the wooden or metal seat hangs. Sometimes this seat is suspended by chairs which can be adapted (in terms of height and pitch) to suit the preferences of those using it.

A material which is one of the most popular for swing seat construction is Scandinavian Pine. This strong wood is very slow growing and as a result is dense and strong. Because it is grown in the far north of Sweden, up in the Arctic circle, it is well suited to the UK climate and will last a very long time. In addition to having few air pockets in the wood, it is also coated with a preservative to prevent any fungal attack. This glaze can also be coloured to give the swing seat a gorgeous look. Wooden swing seats usually come with cushions and a canopy in a range of designs and colours.

Of course, if you are not interested in a wooden swing seat, you might consider a metal one. Metal such as aluminium and steel are both used in the garden furniture industry. Steel is very strong though it can rust and therefore powder coating is needed to protect it. Aluminium is lightweight but withstands the vagaries of the weather very well. Powder coating is not needed to protect it but it can make it look rather better aesthetically. Metal swing seats also often have textilene seated parts. This manmade fabric is rot resistent and uv stable. It is mould resistent and flame retardart. It needs little maintenance, dries very quickly and is comfortable to sit on.

This piece of garden furniture is so relaxing that you will wonder how anyone manages to get any gardening done with a swing seat sitting beckoning in the garden. Not only are Swing seats comfortable and so relaxing, they also look fantastic and will have the neighbourhood talking. If you are thinking about buying a swing seat, now is the time to do it – make the most of the summer and make the most of your garden.
